Grameen bank of Bangladesh

Grameen Bank is an unconventional bank which has reversed conventional banking practice by removing the need for collateral and created a banking system based on mutual trust, accountability, participation and creativity. Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus is the founder of ‘Grameen Bank’. It functions by providing credit to the poorest of the poor in rural Bangladesh, without any collateral. At Grameen Bank, credit is a cost effective weapon to fight poverty and it serves as a catalyst in the overall development of socio-economic conditions of the poor who have been kept outside the banking orbit on the ground that they are poor and hence not bankable. 6.74 million Borrowers, 97% of whom are women are the beneficiaries of the bank. Grameen Bank provides services in 72,833 villages covering more than 86% of the total villages in Bangladesh. Grameen Bank’s positive impact on its poor and formerly poor borrowers has been documented in many independent studies carried out by external agencies. It won many international prizes and recognition. The founder of the bank professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus and the bank itself have won the Nobel Peace Prize in the year 2006, the highest international recognition in the world. However, Grameen Bank is committed to eradicate poverty from the country in not too distant a future.

Frustration

Frustration means hopelessness. It is a highly intensified emotion in man particularly in a young boy or girl. It may rightly be called a mental disease. In our societies frustrated young boys and girls are found everywhere. Frustration may be of political, economic, domestic, judicial and social. When a political leaders fails to achiever his goal or dream, he may be frustrated. Economic frustration is mostly great and wide-spread because of our unemployment problem. In our country there are many qualified young men and women who are seeking jobs to solve their economic problems. But they are not getting jobs and thus are frustrated. Judicial frustration is also found in our legal world. It is because of the fact that the cases are not decided years after years and months after months. So the affected people have been suffering from frustration. Some young men and women, boys and girls are getting frustrated every moment when they fail to make love-affairs. It is poverty that is creating frustration among the people of our country. The effect of frustration is really horrible and shocking. In some cases frustrated people are found committing suicide. Tension is crated and for high tension people are attacked with serous heart diseases. So steps should immediately be taken by the government as well as by non-government organist tons to create situation so that frustration can be checke and eliminated.

Fundamentalism and terrorism

Nowadays fundamentalism and terrorism go hand in hand. In Christian thought fundamentalism is the belief that everything in the bibles true and should from the basis of religious thought and practice. But at present the term is used in a broader sense meaning th strict following of the basic teaching of any religion. And terrorism means th use of violence to achieve some political aims. So apparently the two ideas seem different, but in modern times some fundamentalists use force or relaxation. So they compel the people by force to follow their dictates. They are even ready to fight and kill their opponents. Much of the violence in the modern world is due to this religious fundamentalism or fanaticism. The fundamentalists cannot see anything good in the religion other than of their won. As a result, confect begins; Millions of people have been killed in these communal conflicts. Thus, by having recourse to terrorism, fundamentalism defeats the very purpose of religion which is to establish peace and harmony in the world.

Food Adulteration

Man cannot live without food. It is essential for health and life. But this food must be pure, clean and fresh. Nowadays foods are often adulterated. In hotels and restaurants stale and rotten foods are mixed with fresh food and served to the customers. Fish and vegetables are adulterated by putting on them chemicals and other preservatives in order to make them look fresh. Bakery and confectionery products are also prepared by using toxic substances and thus they get adulterated. Junk food contains harmful chemicals. Even fruits, milk and beverages are also adulterated. In fact, all kinds of foods and food articles are adulterated by dishonest and greedy businessmen and shop keepers for quick and unearned profit. Adulterated foods are a serous health hazard. They cause many fatal diseases and even death. Food adulteration has become an alarming problem in our country. Dealing in adulterated food is a great crime. The criminals have to be identified and punished. Public awareness should be created so that they become careful about buying foods and food articles. People should see to it that the dishonest and greedy food dealers are looked down upon in the society. The relevant departments of the government should remain ever vigilant against food adulteration and gear up their activities. It is encouraging that our government has taken appropriate measures to remove this problem, punish the criminals and save the people from this dreadful scourge.

Diligence

Diligence means steady effort to perform a work successfully. God has given us two hands to work. Since the beginning of the world humans beings have been struggling with nature to keep hold of their existence. If they did not struggle they might have perished long ago. Thus we see diligence is essential in personal life, social life and in national life. The student who i8s more diligent makes a better result than those who are not. The businessman who is more diligent is a more successful one than others who are less. In the same way the nations which are more diligent are more improved and more prosperous. Many of us are unwilling to go under hard labour by thinking that Allah has given us the mouth, so He will provide us. Again there are people who only believe in fate and ignore their duties. But it is not a good sigh. They should not get the high position in a single day. They had to work very hard, they had to face many difficulties and then they reached their goal. Thus everybody should be diligent for his sake as well as for his country’s sake.

Drug addiction

Drug addiction means a strong desire for a drug which the addict cannot resist. Narcotics like opium, morphine, heroin, marijuana, hashish, LSD and cocaine are used by the addicts. When an addict takes them he gets excited and loses control over himself. Addiction to drug has, nowadays, become one of the greatest problems of the world. This curse has spread in our country also. Young people who keep bad company may be addicted. Being frustrated in life some people take to drug which gives them euphoria. But euphoria is very temporary. It is followed by unhappiness. It tells upon the health of the addict seriously and the addict meets an untimely death. It also creates social problems. Narcotics are very expensive. So the addicted persons take to stealing, mugging etc to procure money. Two kinds of measures may be taken to remove this curse. One in preventive and the other curative. Strong steps should be taken to stop the production and trafficking of drugs, sufficient clinics should be established to cure drug addiction. But the permanent solution is to remove frustration, poverty, unemployment and inequality in the society which cause drug addiction.

Child Trafficking

Whenever we turn over the pages of the national dailies, we come across many headlines on child trafficking. The illegal traders have included children in their list like commodities. They make the children fall into their trap and the children fall prey at their lands. The illegal traders normally offer an angel like child candy, apple, sweets and what not. The children, who are basically poor, respond to their call. The traffickers catch them at different viles. They sometimes buy children from local agents at a very high rate. The unscrupulous traders sell them outside the country. Hundreds of parents go ma losing their sons and daughters. The law enforcing agencies are up and doing. Still, the traffickers goon doing their inhuman business years after years. Again, we know the sufferings of a child after he has been sold. We just shudder at hearing the unbelievable, unimaginable and inhuman stories of their torture. The government should come forward with newer policy to stoop the curse of child trafficking.
